#SpotlightSunday with Dream Big Charity Gala Chair Matt Bumgarner

We are 6 days away from the Greatest Gala of the Summer, the Dream Big Charity Gala. Please take a moment to read our 2016 event chairman, Matt Bumgarner’s letter to event guests and to the public on why he serves and why it is so important to stand up for our kids.

“Nothing happens unless we first dream” – Carl Sandburg. On behalf of the Children’s Safety Center (CSC) and myself. I would like to thank you for your attendance and support of the 9th annual Dream Big Charity Gala.

The goal of tonight is to raise awareness of the CSC and to provide financial support so that the CSC can provide services free of charge to help these children on their road to recovery. From the moment that I first walked through the doors of the CSC, I knew that I wanted to help in any way possible. It is my dream that one day there will be no use for the center, but the reality is there is a great need for the CSC. In 2015 alone there were over 500 alleged victims of child abuse and in the majority of these cases the victims knew the predator in some aspect or another. The handprints have always been a strong symbol for the CSC; to see the walls filled with thousands of children’s handprints that have been victims of abuse is truly moving.

Child abuse is such a taboo subject but by talking about it, we are bringing awareness to a very critical issue. By discussing this topic we are empowering children to know that it is okay to say “NO” and speak out for themselves. If every person tries hard enough, they can almost always think of a person that has been affected by child abuse. Child abuse is a nationwide problem that does not discriminate based on race, religion, ethnicity, gender, or income level. Individuals, families and businesses across the area have all come together to make a true difference, and tonight’s event is a great example of what our community can do when we unite behind a single purpose.

As chairman of the Dream Big Charity Gala, I would like to thank all of the incredible committee members, volunteers and staff members who have made tonight possible. So much dedication and love go into pulling this event together; and it has been an absolute pleasure to work alongside this amazing group.

Thank you again for your support and attendance. Have a great evening.

Sincerely,

Matt Bumgarner
